How to Become a Registered Nurse

Nursing can be a very rewarding career. You will be able to interact and help patients, as well as make a decent amount of money. There are many levels of nursing from becoming a CNA to a nurse practitioner. Many people that strive to become nurses usually become a registered nurse.

After you have graduated high school or obtain a GED you can apply to either a two year or four year nursing program.  Most people that end up in a two year program end up going back to school to get their baccalaureate degree, so you have to decide if you want to finish schooling right away or if you will eventually return. A four year program is going to go more in depth, and may prove to be more rewarding.

Becoming an RN requires that you take an exam. Although you don’t have to take your exam before you start working, it is best if you do. Do your research early in order to find test locations and times to take your NCLEX-RN exam.

Before you become a Registered Nurse, it is a good idea to volunteer at hospitals. This way you can get experience and an idea of what becoming a nurse will be like. In order to be a nurse, you have to be able to deal with blood, be patient, social, empathetic, and dedicated. You can’t be lazy because you are caring for other people’s health. School may prove to be a challenge, so don’t expect nursing to be a breeze.
